Agrico Canada Ltd

One of Canada’s original and leading fertilizer companies, we are dedicated to economically and environmentally sustainable agriculture. Their commitment is to provide superior products and services to our valued customers in a safe and responsible manner with trained and reliable personnel. Their objective is to maintain and enhance the company’s standard of service and commitment to agriculture, for the benefit of our customers, employees, shareholders and the community.”

Almost a century ago, the first bag of fertilizer was sold in Ontario. That first bag was sold by a representative of American Agricultural Chemicals Limited to a farmer in Middlesex County’s West Williams Township. In 1931, the company received letters of patent in Canada and a new company, Agricultural Chemicals Ltd., was formed. M.J. Daignault was appointed sales manager and led the company through the Great Depression, Second World War and the euphoric 1950s. Eventually, the company name changed to Agrico Canada Limited/Limite and in 1985 the shares were purchased by a holding company under the stewardship of a group of Canadians led by R.L. Whitelaw.
